Services for Nancy E. Muse Taylor, 87, will be at 1 p.m.
Saturday at Mount Vernon African Methodist Episcopal Church with the
Revs. Robert L. Franklin, Tommy L. Calhoun and R.C. Emanuel
officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home. Mrs.
Taylor died Sunday at MYA Health Care following a lengthy illness.
She was born Jan. 15, 1916 in Anderson County, the eighth of nine
children born to Lewis and Celia Beason Muse. Mrs. Taylor was a
member of Mount Vernon A.M.E. Church since 1938 and during that time
she served as a trustee, Sunday school teacher and president and
stewardess of the Women's Missionary Society. She was a very
active member of the Anderson County Historical Commission, the
Negro Historical Preservation Society and the Anderson County Preservation Society. She worked tirelessly doing extensive
research documenting the history of Mount Vernon A.M.E. Church.
As a result of her efforts, the church is recorded in the Texas
Historical Landmark, a local landmark and a National Register
Property of Historic Places. Mrs. Taylor was preceded in death by
her parents; sisters and brothers; and her husband, George F.
Taylor. She is survived by sons, Jesse L. Taylor and Joann of
Dallas, James J. Taylor and Azalean of Palestine, Lewis E. Taylor
and Geraldine of Houston, and Kenneth E. Taylor and Pamela of Moreno
Valley, California; daughters, Alma J. Paris of Dallas, Ruby J.
Deadmon and Lee of Dallas and Bernadine Taylor of Palestine; an
adopted daughter, Mary Birdow of Palestine; 17 grandchildren; and 11
great-grandchildren. She also leaves a host of nieces;
nephews; cousins and friends. Pallbearers will be Fred DeCluette,
Ronnie Evans, Charles Muse, Clarence Muse, Edward Muse and James
Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be Vernon Denmon, Jim Evans,
Albert Gilbert, Newell B. Kane, Jimmy Odom, Hugh Russell, Chester
Thomas and Gary Williams. COndolcence calls will be
received from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
