Lizzie Sheldon is Mary Elizabeth Kennedy Sheldon, who was called Lizzie. She had a sister named Janie Lucy Kennedy, who married Claudius Robert Bell. Lizzie is my great-grandmother. The man, I believe, is Nathan Preston ("Press") Bell, brother of Claudius Robert Bell. These people mentioned in the photo are the maternal aunt and paternal uncle of Bessie Bell (Elizabeth Louise Bell). Bessie was born in Neches about 1904, and Bessie was my grandfather's first cousin. I am not sure who the younger girl is in the photo-- it could be one of Lizzie's half-sisters, either Alpha Anna Kennedy or Minnie Lou Kennedy. "Grandfather H_____" is probably James S. Hanks, second husband of Louezer Dial Bell, mother of Claudius Robert Bell. Claudius Robert Bell, Louezer Dial Bell Hanks Ezell and James S. Hanks are buried in the Neches Cemetery. Tombstone photos for Louezer (close up) and Claudius (close up). Lizzie and Janie were the daughters of John Thomas Kennedy, an educator in East Texas and a Methodist minister. He died 1879 in Neches and is buried in the Old City Cemetery in Palestine. |
