Frank Louis Young was born in Anderson County, Texas, one among
nineteen other brothers and sisters to the union of Martha and
Dennis Young. He joined the Green Bay A.M.E. Church at an early
age, when his family moved to Palestine, Texas, he united with the
Grant Chapel A.M.E. Church, where he devoted himself to Christian
service. He lived near the West Union Baptist Church, although
he was a member and physically handicapped, he often made sacrifices
in helping to do many of the necessities of that church. He
attended the Washington Elementary School in Palestine during the
first years of his school life, under the tutorship of the late Mrs.
Martha Thompson. He also attended school at Green Bay and
finished his elementary education in the Palestine Public Schools
later. He was married to Miss Josephine Govan, December 26, 1923,
born to this union was one girl. He always helped in any way
possible to carry on civic activities. he was the first man to
make a donation to the fund that was used to honor the late Mesdames
Martha Thompson and Julia McClelland. He worked for the Missouri
Pacific Railroad Company for 36 years and retired on disability in
1951. He became stricken with his final illness, January 27,
1957, and departed this life February 11, 1957. He is survived by
his widow, Mrs. Josephine Young, a daughter, Mrs. Imogene Lockhart,
Dallas, Texas, a sister, Mrs. Edwina Phoenix, Houston, Texas, and
many relatives and friends. |
