Mrs. Olivia Boyd Word surrendered her life to the Lord on Sunday, January 15, 2006 at Greenbrier Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born October 23, 1917 in Palestine, Texas to the union of Mr. Oliver M. and Georgia Annie (Anderson) Boyd.
She united with West Union Baptist Church at an early age.
In 1933 she graduated from Lincoln High School.
On June 20, 1933, she married Jesse Leon Word and to this union five boys and two girls were born.
She later united with South Union Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorage of Rev. Joe James.  There she was an active member serving as president of Mission #2, vice-president of the Senior Choir, and Church Administrative  Assistant until her health failed.
In addition to her responsibilities as homemaker, she was a member and officer of the Naomi Chapter #50 of the Order of Eastern Stars.  She served as a den mother for the Cub Scouts of America; volunteered for the United Way and the American Cancer Society's Local Cancer Drive.  She was also an active member of the Anderson County Community Council and served for many years as an Election Clerk in district 2 local and state elections.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; five children; two brothers; three sisters and one grandson.
Mrs. Word is survived by a daughter, Ann Elizabeth Word Hudson of Palestine; son, James W. (Gloria) Word of Hayward, California; sisters, Ruth Wiley of Palestine, Darlene Andrews and Doris Deckard of San Antonio and Freddie Turner of Jamestown, California; sisters0in0law, Ora O'Brien of Houston, Ida Montgomery and Mildred (Archie) Reed of Washington, D.C.; grandchildren, Vivian E. Bailey, Charlotte Bass-Simon, Janet Sweet, James C. Hudson, Louis O. Bass, Roderick Davison, Ebony Booker Russell, Katrina Word; 13 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Services for Olivia Boyd Word, 88, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at South Union Missionary Baptist Church with the Revs. Derrick Lott and Michael Clerkley officiating.  Burial will follow at Memorial Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Mrs. Word died Sunday at Greenbrier Nursing and Rehab Center.

Bass, Roderick Davison, Ebony Booker Russell and Katrina Word; 13 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Active pallbearers will be Craig Carter, Robert Collier, Joe Henry Deckard, Johnathan Deckard, LaCharles Edwards and Eric Gilbert.
