Bessie Mae Griffin Word

Born:  14 April 1914 - Vistula, Houston, Texas
Died:  20 November 2002 - Dallas, Dallas, Texas
Mother:  Roberta Griffin
Spouse:  Columbus Peter (C.P.) Word - 8 November 1930

Services for Bessie Mae Word, 88, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in McCoy Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Kenneth Henry officiating.  Burial will follow in Memorial Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Mrs. Word died Wednesday in Dallas.
She was born April 14, 1914 in Vistula to Roberta Griffin.
Mrs. Word was reared by Garfield and Mary Shuffer and attended Anderson County Schools.  She was a member of South Union Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Columbus Peter (C.).) Word; and a brother, Napoleon Vinson.
Mrs. Word is survived by daughters, Gwendolyn Chism of Dallas and Mary Hawkins of Detroit; seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Fredrick Hawkins, William Hawkins Jr., Clarence H. Lee Jr., Clarence H. Lee III, Louie Lee and Marcus Lee.  Honorary pallbearers will be friends of South Union Baptist Church.
