Services for Mrs. Freddie C. Tims, 63, of Lufkin, will be held at 11
a.m. Wednesday in the New Zion Baptist Church with Pastor H. E.
Fowler, Sr. and Dr. Harold Edwards officiating. Burial will follow
in Memorial Cemetery in Palestine. The body can be viewed in the
Tims Funeral Home Chapel from Tuesday until 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Mrs. Tims was born May 14, 1928 in Palestine and died Friday in a
Lufkin hospital. She had resided in Lufkin for the past 25 years.
Mrs. Tims received her bachelor's degree from Huston-Tillotson
College in Austin, a Master's Degree in Education from Stephen F.
Austin State University and also attended Southern Methodist
University and New York University. She taught grades 1-4 in
Palestine ISD from 1950 to 1956 and taught in Lufkin ISD from 1967
until her retirement in 1982. She was a member of the New Zion
Baptist Church where she served as Sunday School pianist and sang
alto in the Sanctuary Choir.
Survivors: husband, Hadie Tims of Lufkin; step-daughter, Patricia A.
Tims Roberts of Jacksonville; mother, Lillian Jones Smith of
Palestine; brother, Bobbie L. Jones of Washington, D.C.;
step-grandson, De Corey Tims of Lufkin.
