Bernice Rogers Asberry Thomas was born
August 14, 1922 to the union of Floyd Rogers and Sinnie Jones Rogers
in Palestine, Texas. She attended school at Douglas Elementary
and Lincoln High School. Mrs. Thomas united with Antioch Baptist
Church during the pastorage of Rev. W.G. Sheppard. She worked as
a maid and babysitter for neighbors and friends. Mr. Lee Asberry,
Jr. and she were united in hold matrimony and to the union two
daughters were born. She later married Mr. Armster J. Thomas
who preceded her in death in 1952. She departed this life on
December 12, 1997 at Memorial Mother Frances Hospital in Palestine,
Texas. Survivors are: two daughters, Miss Patsy Ann Asberry
of Tyler, Texas and Mrs. Daisy Faye White of Waco, Texas; six
grandchildren, Kevin E. Wallace of Mesquite, Texas, Kennard S.
Derrough of Lewisville and his wife Kim Y. Harris of Tyler, Texas,
Sonya R. Carter and her husband of Waco, Texas, Suzanna R. Snell and
husband of Waco, Texas, James c. White, Jr. and wife of Waco, Texas;
eight great grandchildren all of Waco, Texas; one aunt, Mrs. Leona
Rogers; four nieces, JoeAnn Brookings of Palestine, Texas, Juanita
Henry of Tyler, Texas, Goldie Henry of Palestine, Texas and Barbara
McClellan of Palestine, Texas. She also leaves many cousins,
other relatives and friends.
