Mrs. Alberta Phillips was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Johnson.  She was born September 27, 1894, in New Waverly, Walker County, Texas.  She attended the Green Bay school at Tucker in Anderson County.  After spending two years at Paul Quinn College in Waco, Texas, she was married to Mr. Johnny Smith, and they became the parents of two sons.  One passed away in early childhood, and the other passed in early adulthood.
Mrs. Phillips spent her life in thes service of her church.  She served her local church, Grant Chapel A.M.E. Church as pianist, class leader, stewardess, missionary teacher and Sunday School teacher for over sixty years.  She was State president emeritus of the Stewardess Board at the time of her demise.  Publications that have been authored by her include:  Do You Know?  and Guidance for the Stewardess Board of the Tenth District.  She was also active in civic affairs, the Red Cross and other projects.  She was also a member of the Holy City Court #161 of the Grand Court Order of Calanthe and Nazarene Chapter #113 O.E.S.
After the death of Mr. Smith, she married Mr. Justice Phillips, with whom she lived happily until his demise.  She departed this life May 4, 1977.
She leaves to mourn her loss:  one sister, Mrs. Lucy V. Manning; one uncle; five grandchildren; four great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
