Dr. Henry Douglas Patton, the first child
of the late Joseph and Helen Patton, was born October 13, 1901 in
Greenwood, Louisiana.
Dr. Patton's early education was received
in the Texas College Laboratory School. After completing the
basic and prescribed courses she entered Texas College of Tyler,
Texas and received his B.S. Degree in 1924. He entered Meharry
Medical College of Nashville, Tennessee and received his M.D. degree
in 1929. On completing his internship and residency at Prairie
View College Hospital, he began the practice of medicine in Wharton,
Texas and then moved to Palestine, Texas in 1936.
His professional services were extensive.
He was appointed Director of Medical Services at Prairie View
College Hospital in 1945. He was a staff member of Missouri
Pacific and Memorial Hospital, Palestine, Texas. He was a life
long member of the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church and served
as a member of the Board of Trustees at Texas College in Tyler.
He was a member of the East Texas Medical Association and the
National Medical Association. He was a member of Omega Psi Phi
Fraternity, Inc. He was a charter member of the voters league.
His diligence, devotion and loyalty to his
profession was highly regarded. He gave of himself tirelessly
and unselfishly. His deep concern for his patients was most
significant. His abiding love for his family was admirable for
he was a devoted husband and father.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Bertha
A. Patton of Palestine; one daughter, Dr. Helena D. Brown of
Nashville, Tennessee; one son, Henry L. Patton of New York City; two
grandsons, Robert and David Brown of Nashville; one sister and her
husband, Mr. and Mrs. S.L. Hall of Nashville; one uncle and his
wife, Mr. and Mrs. Wade Patton of Los Angeles; one sister-in-law and
her husband, Mr. and Mrs. W.P. Johnson of Fort Worth; and several
cousins and many friends. |
