Willie Myers was born to Anderson and Alice Hungerfoot Myers on
February 28, 1912. A native of Palestine, Texas, he grew up in
'Ole Town' and fondly remembered his childhood and friends. He
attended Palestine schools before beginning his life long vocation
of cooking. On June 4, 1939, he was united in holy matrimony to Rosa Clewis and to this union two children were born, one daughter, Freta (Charles) Parkes and one son, Billy Tyree Myers. He worked as a dining car cook on the Missouri Pacific Railroad Eagle and was later the chef cook on the railroad officers' private car. At the close of the dining car era, he served as chef at the Sadler Motel. At an early age he united with Antioch Baptist Church. He then moved his membership to South Union Missionary Baptist Church which he dearly loved. He devoted many years of service to the church and to God. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1980; his son; two brothers, Jesse Myers and Albert Myers; two sisters, Mary Lou Joe and Carrie Dew; two nephews, Steve Mayfield and Bobby Dew; one niece, Mary Alice Smith an done great-nephew, Charles Smith. He leaves to cherish his memories, a specail friend, Olivia Word; one daughter, Freta (Charles) Parkes; three grandsons, Craig Parkes, Keith (Fiona) Parkes; Charles (Jennifer) Parkes III: one great nephew, Allan 'Randy' Smith; eight great grandchildren; four great, great grandchildren; three sisters-in-law and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. |
