On Saturday night, May 25, 1996 Raymond (Ray) Montgomery quietly
went home to be with the Lord. He was a kind and loving person
and was always willing to give a kind word and loving smile to
everyone he met. Ray was born in Palestine, Texas on august 31,
1938 to the late Vernon Montgomery and Ida Word Montgomery. He
had one sister, Brenda M. Patterson. Ray was the father of one
son, Raymond, Jr., who resides in San Francisco, California with his
wife and 5 children. He will greatly be missed by his family.
Ray attended school in Palestine and graduated from Lincoln High
School. After graduating from high School, Raymond joined the
Air Forde and retired after serving 23 years in the military.
Shortly after his military retirement, Ray began working as a
financial analyst with the Department of Commerce. After
working the Department of Commerce for an additional 20 years, Ray
retired on September 20, 1995. No sacrifice or effort was too
great to assure his loving mother of his love and devotion for her.
After he lost his father, Ray would say, it is my job to take care
of my other and that he did. Ray was known as a caretaker and
demonstrated that when he made a pact with his mother that he would
insure for educating and making sure his younger sister, Brenda,
attained her goals, both in her career and personal life.
Ray's death portrayed his lifestyle in that he was a happy, people
loving person. Ray literally 'died laughing' in the presence
of his best and loving friends, Brenda Sutton, Brandy Smith, George
Thomas and JoAnn Thomas. Ray loves to mourn his passing:
his mother, Ida Montgomery; son, Raymond Montgomery, Jr.;
grandchildren, Raymond Montgomery III, Trina Montgomery, Deshaun
Montgomery, Deaundre Montgomery and Isaiah Montgomery; sister
Brenda m. Patterson; brother-in-law, Felix L Patterson; godson and
nephew Felix L. Patterson II, niece, Chrystal Patterson; aunts,
Mildred Reed and Ora OBrien; uncle C.P. Word; long term special
friend, Joyce Lynn Anderson; and a host of cousins and friends.
We will al truly miss him, but we know that God loved him best. |
