Mrs. Jewel McGuire Mitchell, daughter of Willie Thomas and Agnes McGuire was born in Longview, Texas.  She was educated in the public schools of Longview and received college degrees from Texas and Bishop Colleges.  At an early age she united with Bethel Baptist Church of Longview and continued Christian service until her demise on Dec. 13, 1962.
She was united in marriage to Dr. H.D. Mitchell, Sept. 22, 1922.  No children were born to this union.
Mrs. Mitchell has served her community as a public school teacher at the Green Bay School for over twenty-five years and has been active in both civic and community affairs.  She is survived by her husband, Dr. H.D. Mitchell, a sister, Mrs. Hayword Gullatte, two brothers, James Willie and Howard McGuire and a host of other relatives and friends.
