Aurora Blanch Louise Smith Lambert

     Mrs. Aurora Blanch Louise (Smith) Lambert, better known as A.B., was the second of seven children born to the late Mr. and Mrs. Abe Smith, November 22, 1908 in Palestine, Texas.


     She united with the Antioch Baptist Church at an early age where she was active until she married the late Dr. R.E. Holland in 1944 and later movmed her membership with her husband to the West Union Baptist Church.  While serving as a member at Antioch, she was a Sunday School Teacher, involved with the YWA, Choir Member, and taught the Men's Bible Class.  She later united with the South Union Baptist Church in Palestine and then the True Vine Baptist Church in Tyler, Texas.

Mrs. Lambert was educated in the Palestine Public Schools and graduated from Lincoln High School.  She entered Bishop College in Marshall, Texas where she received a B.A. Degree with emphasis in Public Speaking.  She received her M.A. degree from the University of Southern California in English.  She taught school at Palestine, Flint Hill, Jasper, Massey Lake, Green Bay, and Neches.  Mrs. Lambert also taught at Bishop College after it moved from Marshall to Dallas, Jarvis Christian College and Texas College.  She was known throughout the state and nation as "The Reading and Speech Specialist". Obviously she was a strong advocate of education and positively impacted the lives of those she taught.

She later married Mr. Eddie Lambert, who preceded her in death.

Mrs. Lambert was the owner and operator of the first Black Florist "Holland's Flower Ship" in Palestine.  While pursing her teach career, she ventured into a successful Real Estate Business and became owner/developer of the Royal Forest Bay Lake Subdivision in Frankston, Texas.

Over and above her religious and educational pursuits, Mrs. Lambert's fraternal affiliations include:  membership in the Texas State Teachers Association, National Education Association, National English Teacher's Council, Relators Association, and a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority.
Mrs. Lambert departed this life on Saturday, February 20, 1999 at Memorial Mother Frances Hospital in Palestine, Texas.  She is preceded in death by:  her parents, Abe Smith and Ora Harris Smith, brothers, John H. Smith and Jim Smith; and a sister Ada Price.

Survivors include three sisters, Mrs. Myrtle M. Jamerson and Mrs. Ethelyne Gibson of Palestine, Texas; Mrs. Opal Faye Hamilton of Las Vegas, Nevada; four nieces, nine nephews and a host of beloved family and friends..
