Katie J. Bell Hefley Bacon was born in Anderson County, Texas to John K. and Mary Alice Conaway Bell. Her parents are buried in Bell Cemetery. She married John B. Hefley. They were the parents of two sons, John Melvin Hefley, Homer Royal Hefley, and two daughters, Nelda F. Hefley and Bobbie Alice Hefley. Their son, Homer, is also buried in Bell Cemetery. She later married Carl Bacon. Both husbands preceded her in death. Katie died in Andrews County, Texas. She was, at the time of her death, survived by two sons, John M. Hefley of Lake Striker and Homer R. Hefley of Quitman; two daughters, Nelda Hefley Garrett of Seminole and Bobbie Alice Hefley Campbell of Andrews; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother, Marshall Bell of Malakoff; and one sister, Mrs. Florence Eilenberger of Palestine. Her obituary was published in the Palestine Herald-Press, Monday, 16 July 1984. |
