Benjamin Rogers Thomas, Jr., born 1806, Edgecombe County, North Carolina. He married (1) Martha Engledow, 30 DEC 1838, in Nacogdoches county, Texas, born Wythe County, Virginia, daughter of John Engledow and Elizabeth Simpson, died 1840/48, San Antonio, Texas with Tuberculosis. He married (2) Penelope Wheeler. Benjamin died 1891, Bexar County. TX. Son of Benjamin Rogers Thomas, Sr. and Mary Ann Dickinson. According to The Texas Handbook Online: "Benjamin Thomas, early settler and soldier in the Texas Revolution was born in South Carolina?? in 1806. In 1823, he moved to Texas and settled in Ayish Bayou (later San Augustine). During the Texas Revolution, Thomas served in Capt. William Kimbro's company from March 16 to June 16, 1836. He was a member of the Texas Veterans Association. Thomas died in San Antonio in 1891." Discharge

      1. Vivian Richardson, born 12 May 1905, VanZandt Co, Texas; died 2 Oct 1991, Tyler, Texas. She married Hubbard Thedford, the son of Lee Andrew Thedford and Emma Dora McMillan, 28 Aug 1923. He was born 31 Aug 1900, Smith Co, Texas; died 31 Oct 1959, Rusk, Texas. Both are buried in the Pleasant Retreat Cemetery, Smith Co, Texas

2. Martha Angelina Thomas, born 13 MAR 1842. She married Lyne Taliaferro Barret, 26 AUG 1857, in Melrose, Texas: Home of aunt, Amanda Johnson, born 07 NOV 1832, Appomattox, Virginia, son of Charles Lee Barret and Sarah Taliaferro, died 23 MAR 1913, Melrose, Nacogdoches County, Texas. Martha died 04 APR 1920, buried: Methodist Church, Melrose, Tex. Whe was called Angelina. Lyne was called Tol. He was a Celt. He brought in the first producing oil well west of the Mississippi River, in Texas. Served as a captain of the Quartermaster Corps, Confederate States of America, for the Nacogdoches district. Tol was the first secretary of Ochiltree Masonic Lodge # 143 of Melrose when it was founded in 1855, and was later a master. He served as a Justice of the Peace in 1862 and 1899.
