Martha Taylor, born 1826, Alabama. In 1850 he was Overseer of the roads in Precinct No. 2, Smith Co, Texas. In 1860 he is listed a member of the St. John's Lodge No. 53, Tyler. Josephus and Martha were early members of Harris Creek Baptist Church. They were dismissed by letter in November 1860.

Last Sunday he was finishing his sermon at Pleasant Retreat Methodist Church when he fell in the pulpit and died suddenly. He was well known in Troup having served here as pastor many years ago."
