Joseph Carson Edwards, overseer, farmer, Confederate soldier, the son of
John and Annie Huntsinger Edwards, was born in Rutherford Co., N.C., 10 August 1833. He moved to Milledgeville, Ga., in 1855 where he married
Martha Miriam King Blow, 2 July 1857. She was born 23 July 1841, in Milledgeville, daughter of
George Washington and Elizabeth Langford Blow. The Edwards, son David, and the Blows arrived in Starrville, Smith Co, Texas., December 1858. He was an overseer for Captain Nolan one year and one year for Col. Ferguson. He bought a home and farm land in the Old Antiock Community and became a successful farmer. He retired and moved to Tyler in l908. He was the father of 10 children--9 born in Smith County:

Henry Grady (1871-1936),
Martha Louise (1874-1947),
Joseph Jackson (1880-1952),
Benjamin Franklin (1883-1944), and
Ella I. Edwards (1885-1972). David was County Surveyor of Smith County for many years. Henry was editor and owner of newspapers in Troup, Lindale, and Tyler. Robert E.L. became prominent in the mercantile business. Confederate Army Record: J. C. Edwards (1862-1865) enlisted in Capt. Jonathan Lewter's Company, 15th Texas Infantry and served in the Trans-Mississippi army in Walker's famous division.
