Cemetery, Albany, Shackleford County, Texas. Served as a Chaplain in
the Confederate Army, Wall's Legion Texas Cavalry. Rev. Wallace Gary Caperton was a Baptist minister and elder, serving Texas in these known congregations and maybe more: In 1860, he is listed as a "Baptist Preacher", living with his new father-in-law, Henry Awalt, in Freestone County, Texas. From there, Salem Baptist Church, of Larissa, Cherokee County, Texas, Antioch Baptist Church, Smith County, Texas, as a minister, he traveled by horseback, taking his Bible and clothing with him in his saddle pockets. First Baptist Church of Troup...In 1866, under the leadership of the pioneer preacher, W. G. Caperton, the church was organized in the old Bell log school house. First Baptist Church of Whitehouse. In the year 1869, a church congregation, called New Hope Church of Christ, Baptist, was organized by Elders J. A. Kindle and W. G. CAPERTON and twenty-five charter members. Pleasant Hill Baptist Church ... In 1872, Rev. Caperton was elected as their first pastor, and a plot of ground was deeded to the church by W. B. Funderburgh. A one room log church house was built there to serve its 30 members. Mount Sylvan Baptist Church ... In 1883 the church called W. G. Caperton. First Baptist Church of Brady...The First Baptist Church of Brady was organized in 1887. W. G. CAPERTON was one of its fourteen known ministers. Wallace G. Caperton was also a postmaster for Smith County, Texas in the early 1870's.
