Wallace Gary Caperton, born 19 SEP 1837, Carroll County, Mississippi. He married (1) Pernilla E. "Lizzie" Awalt, 18 APR 1860, in Freestone County, Texas, born 1840, Nacogdoches county, Texas, (daughter of Henry Awalt and Mary Reed) died Feb1863 to Feb1866. He married (2) Margaret Anna Ford, 22 FEB 1866, in Cherokee County, Texas, born 22 FEB 1845, Texas, (daughter of Phillip Henry Ford and Margaret A. Wolfe) died 28 DEC 1917, buried: Albany Cemetery, Albany, Shackleford County, Texas. Wallace died 25 JUN 1925, buried: Albany Cemetery, Albany, Shackleford County, Texas. Served as a Chaplain in the Confederate Army, Wall's Legion Texas Cavalry.
 


Rev. Wallace Gary Caperton was a Baptist minister and elder, serving Texas in these known congregations and maybe more:

In 1860, he is listed as a "Baptist Preacher", living with his new father-in-law, Henry Awalt, in Freestone County, Texas.

From there,

Salem Baptist Church, of Larissa, Cherokee County, Texas,

Antioch Baptist Church, Smith County, Texas, as a minister, he traveled by horseback, taking his Bible and clothing with him in his saddle pockets.

First Baptist Church of Troup...In 1866, under the leadership of the pioneer preacher, W. G. Caperton, the church was organized in the old Bell log school house.

First Baptist Church of Whitehouse. In the year 1869, a church congregation, called New Hope Church of Christ, Baptist, was organized by Elders J. A. Kindle and W. G. CAPERTON and twenty-five charter members.

Pleasant Hill Baptist Church ... In 1872, Rev. Caperton was elected as their first pastor, and a plot of ground was deeded to the church by W. B. Funderburgh. A one room log church house was built there to serve its 30 members.

Mount Sylvan Baptist Church ... In 1883 the church called W. G. Caperton.

First Baptist Church of Brady...The First Baptist Church of Brady was organized in 1887. W. G. CAPERTON was one of its fourteen known ministers.

Wallace G. Caperton was also a postmaster for Smith County, Texas in the early 1870's.

POSTMASTER-SMITH COUNTY, TEXAS in the town of Esparanza from 29 SEP 1871, Discontinued 28 OCT 1872.

Pernilla:

I. Mamie Caperton, (daughter of Wallace Gary Caperton and Pernilla E. "Lizzie" Awalt) born 06 FEB 1863, Texas. She married Thomas "Tom" Broughton Collier, 03 NOV 1883, in Smith County, Texas, born 29 JAN 1855, Texas, (son of John O. Collier and Amanda M. Broughton) died 07 SEP 1933, buried: Bradford Cemetery, Troup, Smith County, Texas. Mamie died 05 OCT 1912, buried: Bradford Cemetery, Troup, Smith County, Texas. Burned to death in a home fire when Grady, her son, poured kerosene oil into a stove. He was 6 years old. Both mother and child perished. Thomas: Attorney and accountant in Troup, Texas.

A. E. C. "Lizzie" Collier, born 11 OCT 1885, Texas, died 10 DEC 1918, buried: Bradford Cemetery, Troup, Smith County, Texas.

B. Clarence Henry Collier, born MAR 1888, Texas. He married Fannie Gillespie, buried: Dallas, Texas. Clarence buried: Dallas, Texas.

C. Urna Collier, born 1892, Texas. She married Ralph McBride, buried: Houston, Texas. Urna buried: Houston, Texas.

D. Mabel C. Collier, born JUN 1894, Texas. She married John Frank Bice, 08 JAN 1916, in Smith County, Texas, born 1892. Played piano for many years in Tyler.

E. Thomas Caperton Collier, born 16 JAN 1898, Troup, Smith County, Texas. He married Margaret Isabell Ferguson, 08 AUG 1947, born 18 JUL 1908, Boonville, Indiana, died 1993, Austin, Texas, buried: Memorial Park, Austin, Texas. Thomas died 30 MAR 1984, Austin, Texas, buried: Memorial Park, Austin, Texas.

F. Marietta Collier, born 1902-03, Texas. She married Russel Breckenridge Watson Sr., 03 SEP 1926, in Smith County, Texas, born 1902-03.

G. F. Grady Collier, born 08 NOV 1906, died 05 OCT 1912, buried: Bradford Cemetery, Troup, Smith County, Texas. He and his mother were burned to death in an accident.

Margaret:

II. Maggie A. Caperton, (daughter of Wallace Gary Caperton and Margaret Anna Ford) born 14 DEC 1866, Texas. She married Charles S. Apperson, 23 DEC 1889, in Shackleford County, Texas. Maggie died 23 DEC 1891, buried: Lynch Cemetery, Shackleford County, Texas. It would appear that Maggie may have died from complications of childbirth. She died just 2 days after her baby, William, was born.

A. William Apperson, born 21 DEC 1891, died 21 DEC 1891, buried: Lynch Cemetery, Shackleford County, Texas.

III. Blanche/Birdie Caperton, (daughter of Wallace Gary Caperton and Margaret Anna Ford) born 15 MAR 1870, Texas. She married William Cornelius Lynch, 29 MAY 1889, in Shackleford County, Texas, born 1868, (son of John Cornelius Lynch and Francis "Fannie" Jane Gunsolos). Blanche/Birdie died 21 APR 1953, buried: Albany Cemetery, Albany, Shackleford County, Texas. It is thought that she took back her Caperton name at some point after her divorce. William: Received divorce from Blanche. Remarried.

A. Douglas Caperton Lynch, born JUL 1891, Texas.

B. Cornel "Connie" O. Lynch, born OCT 1893, Texas. He married Cogie, wife of Cornel O. Lynch.

IV. Nellie Caperton, (daughter of Wallace Gary Caperton and Margaret Anna Ford) born 05 NOV 1871, Texas. She married Peter J. "Jerry" Lynch, 10 APR 1892, in Shackleford County, Texas, born 04 JUN 1871, Texas, (son of John Cornelius Lynch and Francis "Fannie" Jane Gunsolos) died 27 OCT 1928, buried: Albany Cemetery, Shackleford County, Texas. Nellie died 22 MAY 1847, buried: Albany Cemetery, Albany, Shackleford County, Texas. Peter: Father, J.C. Lynch, was one of the first settlers of Shackleford County, Texas, establishing a ranch between Albany and Ibex in the 1850's.

A. Geraldine Eleonor Lynch, born 29 MAY 1893, Albany, Shackleford County, Texas. She married John Anderson Self, born 1887.

B. Kathline Frances Lynch, born JUL 1895, Texas. She married Elias Stevenson.

C. Marguerite Lillian Lynch, born 1901. She married John D. Keiser.

V. Ford Alexander Caperton, (son of Wallace Gary Caperton and Margaret Anna Ford) born 27 JUL 1874, Tyler, Smith County, Texas. He married Flora Jesse Milner, 16 JUN 1932, in Vernon, Wilbarger County, Texas, born 12 DEC 1895, Seymore, Baylor County, Texas, (daughter of Thomas Jesse Milner and Flora Scott) died 1971. Flora:

VI. Percy Caperton, (son of Wallace Gary Caperton and Margaret Anna Ford) born 08 JAN 1877, died 08 JAN 1877, buried: Bradford Cemetery, Troup, Smith County, Texas. Headstone in Bradford Cemetery names Percy's parents as W.G. and Anna F. Caperton.

VII. Douglas Caperton, (son of Wallace Gary Caperton and Margaret Anna Ford) born 1879, Texas.

VIII. Jewell V. Caperton, (daughter of Wallace Gary Caperton and Margaret Anna Ford) born 07 SEP 1886, Texas. She married F.F. McGee. Jewell died 15 NOV 1967, Fort Worth, Tarrant County, Texas. Had a boarding house located in Fort Worth, Texas.

IX. Philroy Henry Caperton, (son of Wallace Gary Caperton and Margaret Anna Ford) born JAN 1888, Texas. He married (1) Elsie, Wife of Philroy Caperton, 1913-14. He married (2) Mary "Mollie" Ann Walton, 1920-23, born SEP 1886, (daughter of Edward Barson Walton and Margaret Belle Webb) died 1972, Ft. Myers, Florida, buried: Ft. Myers , Florida. Philroy died 25 DEC 1932, San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas, buried: San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas. Philroy had a business: OKO Turkey Tonic-A poultry remedy that he sold from Texas to Pennsylvania.

A. Joann Caperton, (son of Philroy Henry Caperton and Elsie, Wife of Philroy Caperton) born 16 AUG 1915.

B. Henry F. Caperton, (son of Philroy Henry Caperton and Elsie, Wife of Philroy Caperton) born 1917.

Mary:

A. Walton Greene Caperton, (son of Philroy Henry Caperton and Mary "Mollie" Ann Walton) born 03 JAN 1924, San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas. He married (1) Sareta Dolores Campbell, in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania, born 23 DEC 1929, Waynesburg, Pennsylvania. He married (2) Second, wife of Walton Greene Caperton. Walton died 23 JUL 1999, buried: Lewis County Memorial Garden Cemetery, Lewis County, Tennessee. PVT US Army Air Corps-WWII.

B. Edward "Webb" Caperton, (son of Philroy Henry Caperton and Mary "Mollie" Ann Walton) born Florida. .
